We are closing in on the end of your senior year!

We will do a comparative study of As I Lay Dying and the film Little Miss Sunshine. Keep an eye on upcoming due dates: Photo story projects are due on Monday, May 23 and As I Lay Dying final chapters are due on May 26. AP exam prep and starting As I Lay Dying is on the menu this week!

On Tues and Wed you will be able to read Act III. On Thurs and Fri we will explore the scene with Hamlet and Gertrude, focusing on intent, madness, and relationship. Shared Inquiry Discussions on Mon, Tues and Fri.
You should begin to look for a source for the "They Say/I Say" essay on Beloved/Do The Right Thing/Clybourne Park. Details to be shared in class. We will begin reading Hamlet at home in preparation for our study of it. Acts I - II due Monday 3/7. Independent Reading requirement this week: 2 hours This week should provide us the time we need to complete our in-class reading of Clybourne Park. This will set us up for some shared inquiry discussions next week (this will be the assessment for the play). Then we'll be able to consider the major project that brings this unit to a close.
Independent Reading: you should be putting in at least 2 hours this week, including the 40 minutes you're getting in class. Next week we're going to start logging our time and pages so we can track progress. We're already a couple weeks into your last semester of high school!
Having finished our critical viewing of Do The Right Thing, we're ready to turn our attention to Bruce Norris's play, Clybourne Park. We'll do the reading of the play in class, with some responses and conversations completed outside of class. With less whole-class text reading, you should be maintaining a good pace in your independent reading. The expectation is that you're doing between 1.5 - 2 hrs of reading on top of our whole-class text. Do The Right Thing "two-pager plus" is due either Thurs 2/11 or Tues 2/16. Welcome back! Hoping you're returning well-rested and excited for the new year!
This week, we finish up our reading of Beloved (refer to the posted schedule). We will continue our online discussions of literary criticism with one last assignment this week. Be sure you're posting when you're supposed to so the rest of your group can keep up likewise. When we're done with Beloved, we will finish up with an in-class essay (which will be included in mp 2) and an out of class "They Say/I Say" written piece (due and included in mp 3). |
