Mrs. Spillane
Mrs. Spillane telling people what to do!
2017 - 2018 is Mrs. Spillane's 21st year at Trumbull High School! After graduating UConn with a BA in English, Mrs. Spillane spent a year working as a youth counselor in a rehabilitation program for incarcerated teens. She then returned to CT and began working toward her Masters in Education at SCSU, completing the program with a student teaching assignment at Trumbull High School. Mrs. Spillane went on to teach English at Central Magnet High School for two years before returning to THS in 1997. Since 2004, Mrs. Spillane has also served as the chairperson for the THS English department. She completed her Sixth-Year degree in Educational Leadership in December 2015.
When she’s not teaching English, Mrs. Spillane can usually be found on the THS stage telling people where and when to make their entrances. This year, Mrs. Spillane will be directing her 20th musical at THS and mentoring the student-run fall play; she is also the THS drama teacher and the advisor and troupe director for the THeSpians (a member troupe of the International Thespians Society). In 2012 Mrs. Spillane was invited to attend The Juilliard School's Theatre Educator "Teaching Shakespeare" workshop. She has been nominated for seven consecutive years as Outstanding Director by the Connecticut High School Musical Theater Awards and won the category in 2016. She is also a 2015 recipient of the Educational Theatre Association's "Inspirational Theatre Educator" Award.
Mrs. Spillane is a mom to three amazing, busy kids and is married to Mr. Spillane (yes, THAT Mr. Spillane!). In the little leisure time she has between grading papers and driving her kids around town in her minivan, Mrs. Spillane occupies herself with reading, photography, editing iMovies on her Mac, going to the theater, correcting other people’s grammar and referring to herself in the third person.
