Drama
Drama 1 is a one-semester, introductory course in Theatre Arts intended to provide an overview of the myriad topics and experiences one may garner in studying theatre. The course combines hands-on projects with historical, sociological, and literary background of theatre.
As performers, students will learn how to use their bodies, voices, and imaginations to create an art form. As readers and writers, students will learn how the play functions as a distinct genre that harnesses the power of words to captivate an audience. As audience members, students will learn how to support artists in their work and extract the most enjoyment from a theatre-going experience. And as collaborators, students will work with peers, mentors, and instructors to share ideas in order to create the best product.
Success in this class may not necessarily lead to a starring role on Broadway or a career in costume design or sound engineering. Instead, it is a place where students can tap their own creativity, gain self-confidence, and experience working collaboratively with others. This is a class where team-work and accountability are tools of the trade. Students will gain experiences and skills that will serve them well no matter where their future takes them.
