We will make our way through the first few chapter of The Catcher in the Rye this week (ch's 3 - 4 due on Wed, 5-6 due Thurs, 7-8 due Mon). Our focus this week will be on analyzing point of view and determining a little more about Holden's character through his interactions with adults and peers. Don't forget our unit 1 vocan quiz on Friday and the Portfolio due on Tues).
This week we begin our "Teenager in the World" unit and our first novel of the unit, The Catcher in the Rye! We will begin slowly, with a very close read of the first few paragraphs and we will work with "noticing" in the text. We'll also start with our vocab book this week. On Monday we'll meet the words and on Friday we will go over our unit 1 exercises.
This week we move on to our first novel, The Catcher in the Rye. We will do a couple pre-reading activities to get us thinking about adolescence then and now and then, by the end of the week, we will be reading the novel. We will also be working on our Billy Madison Week portfolio.
"BIlly Madison Week" continues! We will continue our review of terms and skills as we make our way through the grades right back to grade 10 by the end of the week. Don't forget about Summer Reading--we will take a day to share the books we read and make some recommendations to each other.
This week, we will begin with "untainted writing"--an opportunity for each of you to demonstrate what you can do when reading and writing about a short story on your own. This experience will help me to see where everyone is and plan instruction. From there, we begin with what I like to call "Billy Madison Week!" Just wait and see....
